Toilet Tube Reindeer Puppet
This activity is a tribute to the saying, ‘it’s the simple things in life…’.
Our reindeer puppets look amazing as a Christmas shelf decoration, can be used to add some fun to carols and can even be used to bring small world play to life.
All of this and these reindeer are really so quick to put together!
What you need to make a toilet tube reindeer puppet:
- Toilet Tube - you can get craft versions HERE if you don't have any.
- Twigs
- Painters Tape
- Black Paint
- Red Paint
- White Paint
- Green Paint
- Paint Brush
When choosing the right twigs, consider how they will look once taped into the toilet tube.
A little length is needed to secure them and having a few little branches coming off one another adds for more interesting antlers.
To speed these up even more, instead if using paint, you could use markers of paint pens. Saves drying time!
How to make a toilet tube reindeer puppet:
The first step to making our toilet tube reindeer puppets is to secure the twig antlers in place.
We collected our during a morning scooter ride. Mr 3 loved choosing his own twigs for his reindeer craft project.
Use a strip of painters tape to stick two twigs in place inside the toilet tube.
Use the handle end of the paint brush to make to black paint eyes and a little black mouth.
Add a couple of tiny white paint dots within these black eyes to make the puppet look fun and friendly.
Then it is time to add our reindeer’s nose. We were inspired to create a little Rudolph so we used red paint to make a nose.
To add a pop of colour and to make our puppet more interesting, we added a few stripes of green paint to make a warm scarf for our reindeer.
Allow the paint to dry and then your reindeer is ready for some play!
These toilet tube reindeer are so simple to make. That being said they look so effective and can be used to level up so much play. Use them as finger to add fine motor fun to your favourite reindeer songs or as characters in your festive small world play to expand some story telling. How many reindeer are you going to make?
