Enjoy a week full of Alphabet Activities for Toddlers. This is a great weekly activity guide to teach toddlers about the alphabet in a fun, play based way.

Each day we have a book to read (or a read aloud to watch if you don't have a copy, a song or dance to enjoy and 2-3 themed activities.

If you don't own this book already this one is a must have! Normally I'm all for borrowing from the library but this is one I would purchase!

Sensory Play - Set up an Alphabet Sensory Bin

For this week you really can't beat having a packet of foam alphabet letters - they can be used in so many ways! Magnetic letters work well to. They're great to put into an alphabet sensory bin. See how we made our alphabet sensory bin HERE.

Game: Go on a Letter A Scavenger Hunt!

Get your free printable Letter A Scavenger Hunt. Hide the pictures around the house or laminate them and put them in a sensory bin. Have your toddler find them.

Alphabet- Day 2

A fun book to explore the alphabet.

Sensory Play - Scoop out the Letters

Place foam alphabet letters in a container of water, or even the bath and scoop them out (I use a kitchen strainer like this one as a scoop).

Some ways to encourage alphabet learning while they are playing.

  • Ask if they can find the letter 'B'
  • When the scoop up a letter comment 'That's the letter A. A is for apple and ant'. '
  • That's the leter C. I wonder what words start with C? Can you think of any?
  • Can you find a 'E' for egg?

Get Moving - Animal Alphabet Yoga!

The kids always love this activity - use yoga poses to become an animal! One for each letter of the alphabet.

Craft - Choose a Craft for the First Letter of their Name!

Today's craft is all about the first letter of their name! Choose from this great list of letter crafts.

Outdoor Play - Go on an alphabet walk - what letters can you see?

Some great places to find letters are car registration plates, store signs, street signs etc.

You can mix this up with older children by challenging them to find certain letters. Can you find an 'A'?

Craft - Alphabet Coloring

it's always fun to get out the coloring pencils or crayons - why not try some of these fun alphabet coloring pages (free this week).

Sensory Play - Hide the Alphabet in the Shaving Cream!

Yes, we're getting out the shaving cream (you can use whipped cream if you prefer a taste safe alternative). Hide those foam alphabet letters in there and let them have some sensory, messy, alphabet fun!

Outside Activity - Sidewalk Chalk Alphabet

Write the alphabet in chalk along your driveway or the sidewalk. Some fun ways to play with this are:

  • Call out a letter and have them run and jump on it.
  • Use a spray bottle of water and have them 'spray' the letter you call out
  • Let them practice copying some of the letters themselves.
  • Draw some pictures of items starting with a letter.

Craft - Create a Nature Alphabet

Choose a letter (or letters) and make a nature collage out of them. This alphabet activity idea was shared by Angela.

Learning Activity - Cookie Sheet Letter Match

Did you know cookie sheets are magnetic? Use an old one to write on letters and have your child match them with magnetic letters.

Fine Motor - Sensory Writing

Use sand or rice to create a sensory writing tray. Have your toddler 'write' in the tray using their finger. If you live by the beach use real sand. Want to get messy - use dirt!
