This month I was delighted to discover the amazingly talented, GRAMMY award nominated Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou, a fantastic musician who has produced some excellent children's music. Daria was kind enough to offer me a review copy of her CD Grandchildren's Delight, and I was very impressed with it (as were my 2 girls, who have made me play it over and over in the car for the last week and a half!).
Daria's singing is such a welcome change from the usual children's music that you hear. While my kids love the usual kids CD's sung in an upbeat boppy tune, as a parent there's only so much of that type of music that you can take! Daria's music takes a much different approach, and is a delight to listen to. It's not surprising that she has won so many awards for her music (Parent's Choice Award, NAPPA Award and Children's Music Web Award to name a few).
The Grandchildren's Delight album features some of the old classic children's songs, sung in Daria's beautiful singing style. Our family has really enjoyed listening to some of the 'forgotten' traditional songs and our favorites have been Akin Drum (my girls thought that this song was funny!) and Jadda/Three Little Fishies. I highly recommend her music and resources for parents and educators of young children.
